Sandy, my cousin, was like an older brother to me and my three younger brothers. While I was a kid down home during the summers staying with our grandparents Elsie and John W. MacKay, Sandy took it upon himself to take me under his wing to try and “show me the ropes” whether it be working at our grandparents Marsh Street garage, teaching me to drive (at age 13 mind you), Keddy’s Rambler with the “3 in the tree” shifter, by jumping in the back seat one summer night after we dropped Donna off at home after their date and saying “It’s your time Timmy. Just relax and take it easy, I’m here to help you and just remember to keep it ‘between the ditches’. Haha! I trusted him and, with his coaching, we made it home. Later on, Sandy and I made more memories together on the road hauling mobile homes throughout the Maritimes for John W. MacKay and cruising front street in his early ‘70’s model Dodge Dart Swinger in colour competition orange before hitting the A&W Drive-In on Stellarton Road while listening to CCR’s greatest hits. Sandy was always generous with his time and kind to others. In later years when I had my own family, my kids still fondly remember driving with Sandy through the back trails of Lorne on quads and ending up back at his camp for a family bbq with Donna, Blair, Kathryn and Karen, Keddy and family. Sandy will be missed but always remembered. With heartfelt condolences to all of you, from Tim, Carol, Lauren, Erin and John W. We sincerely wish we could be there with you tomorrow. So, now I say Sandy, rest easy brother, rest easy.

So sad to hear of Sandy's passing, at such a young age. My last and fondest memory of Sandy was last fall when I was home at my sister's funeral. We spent an afternoon together and he took me for a tour of his business. I was amazed to see how this young, shy no confidence teenager I once knew to become a determined very self-confident, well organized and respectable business man and a great family man.
