Obituary of Heather Josephine Duggan

THE PONDS – Heather Josephine Duggan, RN, 75, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 2, 2019 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Nairn, Scotland, she was a daughter of the late John Thomas and Lily (Addison) Gagnon. Heather graduated from Ottawa Civic Hospital School of Nursing in the 60’s, where she was employed for several years prior to moving to Nova Scotia in 1971. She enjoyed an eclectic, 51-year, career, working in many facets of nursing. Heather especially enjoyed working in pediatrics, concluding a meaningful career at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish in October 2016. Heather thoroughly enjoyed looking after children and her career in nursing. She was a faithful follower of her Lord Jesus Christ. Heather enjoyed cross-stitching, watching the sun rise and her community. She would often state, “…couldn’t move me from Lismore…”. Heather was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend who will be dearly miss by those she loved. Surviving are daughter, Karin (David) Sinko, and their daughter, Rachel, Stratford, Ont.; sons, Miles, The Ponds and his daughter, Savannah, North Bay, Ont.; Michael (Angie), Antigonish and their daughter, Eileen (Alex), and her son, Luke, Pictou; Aaron and his children, Michael and Addison, The Ponds; stepson, Mark, Pugwash; sisters, Patricia Lacroix and Shirley Gagnon, Montreal, Que.; Gail Gagnon, Maniwaki, Que; Kathy Gagnon, Toronto, Ont.; Frances “Nikki” Gagnon, Maniwaki; brothers, David Gagnon, Maniwaki; Stuart (André) Gagnon, Nicolet, Que.; Bruce (Francine ) Gagnon, Messines, Que.; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Bill; sisters, Poppy in infancy, Sandra and Roslyn. The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 7th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 8th in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Lismore with Father Colin MacKinnon presiding. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Donations may be made in Heather’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation Palliative Care.
