Obituary of Clement James Guthro
LITTLE HARBOUR – Clement James “Clem” Guthro, 95, Northumberland Veterans Unit, Pictou, formerly of Little Harbour, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, January 15, 2019 into the presence of his Lord and Saviour, one day before his 96th birthday, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Stellarton, he was a son of the late John James and Laura (Benoit) Guthro. Clem served with the Royal Canadian Artillery during the Second World War and was proud of his participation in the liberation of Holland. Upon return, he was a self-employed truck driver, then with Trenton Works and retired from Scott Paper in 1998 after 20 years of service. Clem was a member of Trenton Church of the Nazarene, where he had served on the church Board and in other capacities. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, watching classic old movies and most of all, spending time with his family. For Clem, “life has only changed; not ended!”
Surviving are his daughter, Marilyn (Gerry) Kehler, Winnipeg, Man.; son, Clem (Gayle) Guthro, Santa Ana, Calif.; grandchildren, Lauren (Justin), Brett, Wilson, Erinn, Rachel, Danilo, Jacob, Mauricio and Maria; great-granddaughter, Abigail; sisters, May Martin, Hamilton, Ont.; Isabel (Doug) Cleough, Truro; Laura (John) Macumber, Mt. William; brother, Doug (Marg) Guthro, Alma; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn Jean (Aikens); sister, Gloria McLeary; brothers, Nicholas, Vincent, Vernon, Daniel, Clifford and Alex.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, January 18th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 19th in Trenton Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Leon Teal officiating. Interment will be in Church Brook Cemetery, Little Harbour at a later date.
Clem’s family wish to thank the Northumberland Veterans Unit staff for creating a home for him, where he felt he belonged and was cherished.
