Obituary of Keith John Snell
WALKERVILLE – Keith John Snell, 85, Walkerville, passed away Friday, May 27, 2016 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family.
Born in Stellarton, he was a son of the late Fred John and Deana Marie (Derouche) Snell. In his late teens, Keith joined the Royal Canadian Regiment (Black Watch) and during his six years in the Army, served from 1953-1954 in Korea. Following, he became a certified plumber, pipe fitter and welder. Keith worked on various construction projects throughout the Maritimes. He had been an active member of U.A. Local 244 Plumber, Pipe-Fitters & Welders. Partway through his career, he specialized in medical gas instillation and troubleshooting, working in numerous hospitals throughout the Atlantic Provinces. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and rebuilding old cars. Keith was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, who will be missed by those he loved.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Shirley Helen (Purvis) Snell; children, Cathy (Lionel) Arbuckle and Virginia (James) Crawford, Foxbrook; Neil (Susan) Snell, Stellarton; Timmy (Crystal) Snell, Walkerville; Dena (Russell) Green, Stellarton; Betty (Ricky) Patterson, Westville; Paula (Tim) Morgan, Trenton; Jackie Bailey, Halifax; sisters, Louise Powell, Airdrie, Alta.; Marianne (John) Stewart, Laggan; Mabel (Ron) Walker, New Ross and Jean Snell, Alma; Sharon Grealey, Truro; Virginia (Wade) Rafuse and Mildred (Royce) Leopold, New Ross; brothers, Donald (Nancy) Snell, Sutherlands River and Barry Snell, New Glasgow; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by daughter, Valerie Bailey; sisters, Bessie MacDonald, Mabel MacAulay, Annie Tracey; brothers, Donald, Norman, Freddie, Harry, Fred and Fraser.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday May 30th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday May 31st with Rev. Donna Tourneur presiding.
Interment will be in Springville Cemetery.
