Obituary of Laverne June Guthro

Laverne June (Reid) Guthro, 80, Trenton, formerly of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully, Sunday, July 31, 2022, in the Aberdeen Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow.

Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Garland Foster and Blanche Dewella (Dennis) Reid.  Laverne’s passion was baking and cooking, and when the opportunity arose, she enjoyed working as a cook in a Daycare and Long-Term Care facilities. She enjoyed travelling, however, she always looked forward to returning home, as she always said, “there is no place like home”.  Laverne treasured her role as a homemaker and loved looking after her family. She was both mom and friend to all her children. Laverne was a kind-hearted, easy going, lady who possessed a strong faith in her Lord.

Surviving are her children, Cinda Guthro, Halifax; Audrey (John) Straker, Stellarton; Barb (Barry) Malone, Ottawa, Ont.; Michele (Sandy) Bonvie, New Glasgow; Joe (Nadine) Guthro, Stellarton; Amy (Dale) Pennington, Trenton; grandchildren, William, Spencer, Jason (Samantha), Brandon (Gayle), Aaron (Ashley), Ashley, Jilisa and Luke (Lindsay); great-grandchildren, Noah, Grace, Aryanna, Blake, Rachael and Peter; brothers, Dennis (Audrey) Reid, Westville Road; Donald (Marg) Reid, Port Colburn, Ont.; many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Peter Thomas Guthro; sisters, Joyce Bugden and Bertha Hunter; brothers, Garland, Leonard and Gordon Reid.

In honour of Laverne’s wishes, her family will celebrate her life privately.
