Obituary of Frank Craig

Francis Allen “Frank” Craig, 84, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Trenton, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2023, in the manor.

Born in New Glasgow, he was the eldest son of the late Frederick Amos and Isabel Alban “Lou” (Smith) Craig. In early years, Frank joined the Royal Canadian Air Force where he served for six years. He became an electrician and prior to retirement was employed with Michelin Tire, Granton for many years. Frank greatly enjoyed playing Auction 45’s and all sports, especially hockey and baseball. He enjoyed building and fixing, always wishing to be active. Frank always looked for the best for his wife and family. Frank enjoyed travelling, making yearly trips to Boston and a memorable trip to Europe. His favourite destination was Cuba, where he and his family vacationed many times, making long lasting friendships. He was a proud socialist, an ardent supporter of unionization and the rights of women. Frank had a “soft spot” for the disenfranchised members of society. He cherished the company of his many cats and the neighbourhood strays that came to his door. Frank was a quiet, well-spoken man who was passionate about politics and the world around him. He never stopped learning, nor the willingness to share his knowledge. Frank will be dearly missed by those he loved.

Surviving are his wife, Jean Ann (Gratto) Craig, Trenton; daughter, Marilou Ann Field (Reg MacDonald), Trenton; sons, Douglas Allen “Doug” Craig, Halifax; David Michael “Mike” Craig, Stellarton; grandchildren, Rachel (Will) MacDonald, Fort McMurray, Alta. and Aaliyah Craig, Halifax; great-grandchildren, Barrett and Sloane MacDonald, Fort McMurray; sister, Colleen Keay, New Glasgow; brother, Bobby Craig, Dartmouth; several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Marilyn Cormier; brothers, Bill and Freddie Craig.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
