Obituary of John MacDonald

 

John MacDonald, 71, Moncton, formerly of New Glasgow and St. John’s. N.L., passed away peacefully at Maison Albert House, Moncton, N.B. on February 9, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late William MacDonald and Noreen (Harper) MacDonald.

During his working years John was employed with Versa Services, Glen Haven Manor, Campbell’s Family Restaurant and Aramark. Upon retirement he started consulting work and sold appliances at Home Depot. In his spare time John enjoyed spending time with his “Honey” Carole, his family, playing golf with his buddies in the Senior Men’s League at Mountain Woods Golf Club, building wooden models, reading, photography and taking his dog Jiggs on walks in the neighborhood.

John was a friendly and caring person who always thought of everyone else before himself. He volunteered as a leader with Scouts Canada throughout the 90’s and was part of the 9th and 13th New Glasgow chapters. He gave his time, guidance and advice freely to those that needed it.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carole Courchesne; children, Philip MacDonald (Melissa) and Paul Shaw (Nicole); stepchildren, Christine Perron (Steeve) and Martin Perron (Manon); grandchildren, Connor MacDonald, Cameron MacDonald, Samantha Murray and Hailey Shaw; great-grandchildren, Jack, Scott, Maxym, Tomy, Helena and Jami-Lee; brother, William “Bill” MacDonald (Karin) ; cousins, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Michael “Mike” MacDonald.

The family will receive visitors 2-4 p.m. Thursday, February 15 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow.

The family wish to thank Dr. Jee as well as all the Doctors, Nurses and staff in the Palliative Care Unit of the Moncton Hospital as well as the Hospice Maison Albert House. These dedicated, hard-working and compassionate people gave John the most amazing care which allowed our family to spend quality time together and make positive memories.

Donations may be made in John's memory to the Hospice Maison Albert House, Moncton or the Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation, Palliative Care Unit , Moncton.
