Obituary of Gerard Yves Hermillon

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Gerard Yves Hermillon on June 21, 2024, with his wife of 51 years, Phyllis by his side. He was a beloved father, husband, grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Gerard was born on June 8, 1947, in Clermont-Ferrand, France where he spent his formative years. He was born in a Michelin hospital, went to Michelin schools, graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree, and began working for Michelin Tires France in 1965 at the age of 18. He moved to Canada in 1971 for the opening of Michelin Tires Canada in Granton and remained working there until his retirement in 2006 after 41 dedicated years.

More than anything, he was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family and always looked forward to Sunday family dinners. There was nothing that he wouldn't do for his family and would often be found bragging about how proud he was of them all.

Gerard loved good food, sharing a fine bottle of wine with friends, fishing, hunting, volunteering, hosting barbecues and the occasional challenging sudoku.

Gerard is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis; his children, Wendy (Kevin) Kenney and Tracy Hermillon; and his treasured grandchildren, Jeffrey and Ashley.

He was predeceased by his father, Eugene, mother Helene, and twin brother, Bernard.

The family would like to give special thanks to all of the care he received over the past three years. All of the wonderful nurses (Palliative, VON, Oncology) and doctors.

The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 25 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. A private funeral service will be held for family and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pictou County Palliative Care Society

Lovenly written by family.
