Obituary of Joyce Reid

Velma Joyce Reid, 90, New Glasgow, passed away peacefully, Sunday, August 11, 2024, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Richmond, Que., she was a daughter of the late James Albert and Lillian Dora (Ridley) Gray. Prior to retirement in 1974, Joyce had several careers in retail, which she enjoyed. She was a talented artist, specializing in crocheting and oil painting. Joyce enjoyed spending time in nature and was especially kind to animals. She was always accompanied by her cats, Jake and Sandy.  Joyce was a true friend and always sought to build others up.  She was appreciated for her kind words of wisdom and unwavering love and devotion.

Surviving are her husband of 68 years, Earl Arnold Reid; sister, Donna Betts, Stellarton; brother, Allan Gray, Brockville, Ont.; sister-in-law, Bonnie Gray, London, Ont.; brothers-in-law, Bruce Reid, Saint-Eustache, Que.; many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sister, Doreen Taylor; brothers, Kenneth “Sonny” Gray and Albert Gray; sisters-in-law, Rollande Gray, Winnie Gray, Beryl Reid and Alma Brophy; brothers-in-law, Ronnie Taylor, Robie Betts and George Reid.

The family will receive visitors 1- 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, August 14 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow, where Words of Comfort will be given at 2:45 p.m. by her niece-in-law, Pam Betts.  Interment will follow in Sunny Brae Cemetery.

Donations may be made in memory of Joyce to the Pictou County SPCA.
