Obituary of Harold Edmund Mills
Harold Edmund “Hump” Mills, 77, New Glasgow, passed away peacefully Friday, December 13, 2024, in the Aberdeen Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late George Walter and Agatha Aurelia (Jewell) Mills. Hump was an avid sports fan, who loved to play baseball, basketball, golf, broomball, and was a proud member of the Pictou County Senior Rugby club as well as an inductee of the Pictou County Sports Heritage Hall of Fame. You could find him on the weekend watching the Green Bay Packers and most mornings walking at the Wellness Centre. “Papa” loved his grandchildren. He would find any excuse to visit and spend time with each of them, enjoying sleepovers, going out to eat and finding beach glass and other treasures. Hump and Grace enjoyed playing cards, going camping, and BBQ’s with friends and family over the years.
After working at Sobeys for 33 years, he was employed at Highland Ford as a shuttle driver which allowed him to catch up with friends and make new ones. His favorite pastime was to torment and find a special nickname for everyone he encountered. Hump will be remembered as a social, active and a genuine man who always made time to talk to others.
Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Grace (Adams) Mills; sons, Gene “Foxy” (Heidi) Mills, Alma; Richard (Chelsea) Mills, Salmon River; grandchildren, Aiden, Carter, Rylan, Reid and Mallory; sisters, Rhonda Smith, New Glasgow; Beverly Borden, Park Land, Alta.; Trudi Mills, New Glasgow; brothers, Guillio (Kristy) Mills, New Glasgow; Shawn Mills, New Glasgow; many nieces and nephews.
